The Neapolitan Record is a local paper “by and about Naples, NY” … intended to serve as a megaphone (of sorts) for all that is great about Naples and the surrounding communities – which means we never run out of good stories! It is published once/month in both printed and digital online formats, and made available for free at locations throughout Naples and the surrounding communities — thanks to the generous support of our advertisers. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES!

The paper includes a comprehensive Community Calendar of everything happening in Naples (click here to submit events), and an ever-changing variety of great story and photo submissions. We have several awesome regular contributors, and continue to evolve with new surprises each month as well – guest essays, fascinating stories about the area’s history, activities that will shape our future, and more. Our goal is to include all the diverse “voices” in this rich, vibrant community. Check out some of our past issues and you’ll see…there is amazing stuff happening here every month! What would you like to let readers know about Naples? Feel free to send in your photos, stories, ideas, suggestions… using forms on this website, or email neapolitanrecord@gmail.com!

I get by with a little help from my friends.

John Lennon, The Beatles

Neapolitan Record 1884The name The Neapolitan Record was chosen with a few thoughts in mind… The only connotation of the word “Neapolitan” is that it defines being a resident of a place called Naples, and adding the word “Record” gives it an archival spirit in a nod to The Naples Record.
Further research revealed that it turns out the name has historical precedent!
(at left: Front Page of the Neapolitan Record April 9, 1884 – image found via the Naples Public Library’s digital archives)

Simeon Lyon DeyoExcerpt from “History of Ontario County, New York” by Lewis Cass Aldrich, George Stillwell Conover (D. Mason & Company, 1893) (source):
“January 1, 1880, Mr. Deyo established the Neapolitan, which paper he continued to publish until February 1, 1884, at which time he purchased the Naples Record of Mr. McJannett and consolidated the two papers under the name of Neapolitan Record. The paper continued under this name and management until October 1, 1887, when it again changed hands, and the old name, Naples Record, was restored.”

My hope is to keep the name “The Neapolitan Record” going for more than 3 years this time around!
